SEATTLE - TIME AND AGAIN THE MARINERS ROCKED SOLO HOMERS TO FINALLY CATCH UP TO BOSTON IN GAME FOUR OF THE ALCS.

THE LAST DINGER WAS SPOILED AS A FIELDING MISCUE BY LEFT-FIELDER MARCO NAVARRO ALLOWED BOSTON TO ESCAPE WITH A 7-6 WIN IN 11 INNINGS.

THE SERIES IS TIED AT 2 GAMES APIECE. GAME 5 IS WEDNESDAY AT 7:0S P.M. AT SAFECO FIELD.

BOSTON ERUPTED FOR FOUR FIRST-INNING RUNS AGAINST SEATTLE STARTER TOMMY WALBECK.

"WE RAN ON FUMES THE ENTIRE GAME," SAID WALBECK. "I PUT US IN THAT EARLY HOLE, OTHERWISE I THINK WE PULL IT OUT."

IN THE NINTH, WILTON SANTIAGO, PINCH-HITTING FOR HERRERA, WALLOPED A DRIVE TO DEEP LEFT TO RETURN THE LEAD BACK TO BOSTON, 6-5.

BUT EARL DECLAN GREETED RELIEVER DeWAYNE SCHAFER WITH A ROCKET TO THE OPPOSITE FIELD IN LEFT TO MAKE IT 6-6.

CLOSER RODGER METZ, IN HIS SECOND INNING, WALKED TAYLOR LEACH WITH TWO-OUT IN THE 11TH. CHARLES BEATY GROUNDED A BALL PAST THIRD BASEMAN ALAMONTE AND AFTER NAVARRO OVER-RAN THE BALL, LEACH HAD SCORED AND BEATY HAD WHAT WAS SCORED A TRIPLE.
