WE LIVED ON 67TH AND GRANT STREET - IT WAS GREAT. WALKED OR RODE MY BIKE TO SCHOOL - NO FEAR OF THE BOGEYMAN DESPITE SHARING THE SAME CITY AS THAT SCUMBAG JEFFREY DAHMER - HAVE NO IDEA WHERE HE LIVED, BUT KNOW I WASN'T CLOSE AT ALL.
GUESS SOME FAVORITE MEMORIES ARE THE 1975 ALL-STAR GAME WHEN I WAS 11 YEARS OLD. WENT WITH A FEW FRIENDS, WHOSE PARENTS, LIKE MY MOM, HAD NO DOUBT PAID THE $10 FOR A BLEACHER SEAT.
PERSONALLY, I THOUGHT IT WAS AN OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH PRICE - BLEACHER TIX TO BREWERS' GAMES PROBABLY COST 75 CENTS OR A BUCK BACK THEN.
WE HUNG OUT AGAINST THE CENTERFIELD RAIL DURING BATTING PRACTICE, MARVELING HOW CLOSE WE WERE TO SOME OF BASEBALL'S GREATEST STARS. A CARL YAZSTREMKSI BP HOMER LANDED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF US - WE WERE TOO BUSY SOAKING EVERYTHING ELSE IN TO SEE IT COMING.
ANYWAY, STILL FOLLOWED THEM AS WE MOVED TO DEEP ALABAMA AND THEN EAST TENNESSEE. GOT TO WEAR NO. 4 MY SENIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL (PAUL MOLITOR WAS MY FAVORITE PLAYER), SNAGGING IT FROM OUR CLOSER FOR NO. 9.
I HAD BEEN BUGGING THE POOR GUY - WHO HAD MADE THE VARSITY AS A FRESHMAN - FOR THE NUMBER EVER SINCE MOVING THERE AS A SOPHOMORE IN SPRING 1980.
WORE NO. 3 MY FIRST YEAR, THEN NO. 1,WHICH I HATED AS A JUNIOR. LONG STORY SHORT, I THINK I FINALLY CONVINCED THE GUY TO GIVE UP FOUR WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT'S WHAT MOLITOR WORE, AND HE HIT LEADOFF LIKE I DID, AND THAT OUR CENTERFIELDER WAS NO. 19 AND BATTED SECOND, THE TYPICAL BREWERS LINEUP HAD ROBIN YOUNT BATTING SECOND AND PLAYING CENTER.
IT MUST HAVE WORKED - WE WON THE FIRST OF WHAT EVENTUALLY BECAME EIGHT STATE TITLES (INCLUDING THE LAST FOUR YEARS http://www.admiralbaseball.com/ ). OUR CLOSER? WELL, HE SAVED A STATE-SINGLE SEASON MARK WITH 14 SAVES (OUR RECORD WAS 26-5) AS WE TOOK TWO OF THREE FROM MEMPHIS CHRISTIAN BROTHERS.
THEY HAD COME IN 25-0.

BREW CREW 2011
DIDN'T WRITE DOWN PICKS, BUT YOU'LL GET THE PICTURE.
QUICK GLANCE: HALLADAY HURT LATE IN SPRING, SLOTTED AT 4 IN ROTATION. TEAM HAS STARTED VERY SLOWLY - NO OFFENSE, MAIN CULPRITS ARE BRIAN McCANN AND CARLOS SANTANA.
FOR THE MOST PART, I JUST HIT IN ALL MY DIFFERENT TEAMS UNTIL IMPORTANT GAMES AND THE PLAYOFFS, WHEN I WILL PITCH.
